Rooted in a foundation of charcoal drawing, Sakwon began his journey drawing with his 6 siblings at home, then studying art at UNC Pembroke for 2 years, later evolving into a multidisciplinary artist. His focus is portraiture—telling visual stories through body language, style, and emotion, drawn from real life and lived experience.
His work spotlights people of diverse cultures, with a primary lens on African American subjects and the evolving landscape of the Black Aesthetic. Influenced by fashion, street culture, and his time living in Japan, Sakwon’s pieces burst with color, attitude, and presence—bringing fresh energy to traditional portraiture.
In 2025, he debuted his solo exhibition with Culture Kiosk in Elbląg, Poland, and was invited to show at the Panato Targi Art Fair in Gdańsk. Whether in charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastel, or paint, each piece serves the same mission: to celebrate Black identity, shift perception, and make culture seen.
